If you are timing an event but the karts are not picking up on the timing loop you will need to check if there is an issue with:
- the decoder
- the loop (and activator if fitted)
- the kart's transponder(s)
- the cables connecting the track loop, decoder and the timing PC
Decoders and Servers
The status of any decoder(s) can be seen in the bottom left corner of the Timing app:
The decoder is connected and running with the number designating the loop signal noise. |
The decoder is connected and running, but has high loop noise. This means that weaker transponders may not be picked up. You can use the Tools module of the timing to do some loop analysis (more...) to help identify when the loop noise increased and the strength of any transponder passings. |
The timing cannot connect to the decoder (more...). |
The decoder is connected, but is stopped, i.e. will not record any laps (Tag Heuer / Chronelec decoders only). The decoder will be started when the first session is loaded or can be manually started by right clicking the decoder button and selecting start decoder. |
It is not possible to get connection / noise information for Tag Heuer / Chronelec sector decoders – the status shown is just an indication that they have been configured
The loop or activator
The loop is the antennae wires embedded into the track surface and often covered with a silicone coating. Make sure there are no breaks into the loop cable or the cable connecting it to the decoder. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the correct installation.
In Corporate and Rental karting, the karts are often fitter with long-life battery operated transponders, that are only activated when driving over a specific area on track. This is now as the Activator Loop and is a powered loop. Ensure that the activator is turned on and again that any cabling is intact.
Transponders
The transponders can only work with their designated decoders and some decoders are configured to only acknowledge passings from certain transponders. Make sure the transponders are used as described by their manufacturer and correctly fitted.
Cables
Finally, check that all of the cabling connected the loop to the decoder and the decoder to the timing PC and all their associated power cables. With network connections, you will also need to check the network configuration of the timing PC and any servers (More...)
