An Introduction to the Handheld Scanner's App

Modified on Thu, 21 Nov at 5:21 PM

The barcode scanning is performed using an Android barcode scanner. The recommended scanners are:

  • Most Zebra Android barcode scanners (as long as the scanner supports the DataWedge application) i.e. Zebra TC26
  • Chainway C71 with 1D or 2D barcode module
  • Chainway C72 with 1D or 2D barcode module
  • Chainway C4000-O with 1D barcode module (discontinued)

When the application is launched, the first thing it does is attempt to locate the scanning laptop on the network. In order for the app to start correctly, the laptop must be on and connected to the network with the scanning application open with the correct event open. If a connection cannot be established, you will see the following message:

Check that the scanner is connected to the wifi and that the laptop is connected to the same private network and the application is open, then tap ‘Tap to retry’. If you are still having trouble please see our Scanner Troubleshooting guide

Once a connection has been established, the app will check that it is running the latest version, and if a new version is found you will be asked to install it.

The scanner will then proceed to synchronize its data.  Each step will have a tick next to it as soon as it is complete.  If any step fails a red cross will appear next to the step.

Once the data has been synchronized, the home screen will be displayed.

At the top is the name and date of the current event

Next is a list of modules:

  • Registration – this module is used to scan competitor’s tyres and equipment
  • Verification – this module is used to check tyres and equipment to ensure that they are valid for the current event, or to view the history for that item.
(click the above two links to learn how to register or verify equipment)
  • Diagnostics – This module is used to make it easier for Alpha Timing to help you to diagnose issues
